Giving Tuesday – The Halfway Point

We’re already halfway through our Giving Tuesday #ChipIn campaign, so it’s time to give an update on how we’ve been getting on – and to say thank you to all those who have taken part so far!DSC_0531

Our kick-off event at the Royal Palms Shuffleboard Club was a huge success. Over 50 of you joined in, helping us raise enough to feed 540 guests at our soup kitchen.

The event would not have been a success without the support of the Royal Palms staff. Not only were they generous enough to allow us to use their space, but they also taught us all how to play shuffleboard like pros.DSC_0510

Everyone who came commented on how tasty the sweet treats were, so thank you to Angela Rochelle Cakes for generously donating them. A big thank you also goes to Two Moon for giving us a huge discount on their yummy cookies.

No matter how cool your event is, it’s difficult to get people to hear about it. So thank you to all those who helped distribute flyers and spread the news – particularly the amazing folks over at Park Slope Stoop, who did a blog post on the event.

In other #ChipIn news, we’re looking forward to receiving some delicious homemade pies from Dianna D’Amico. As part of her 45 Pies in 45 Days campaign, Dianna will be baking and delivering the pies to CHiPS in time for Thanksgiving. Yummy!

We’d also like to thank all the generous people over at Park Slope Parents for organizing a canned food and supplies drive. We’re coming up to the toughest part of the year, so we appreciate all your help in restocking our pantries.

We’ve still got two more weeks to go before our open house on Giving Tuesday, so it’s not too late for you to play your part. Whatever your idea for a fundraiser, no matter how big or small the donation, we’d love for you to get involved.

The next Giving Tuesday #ChipIn event will be a film screening of a powerful documentary, Storied Streets. The film explores the issue of homelessness in the US, challenging long-standing stereotypes and misconceptions. Tickets, which cost $8 and include popcorn and a beer, are available to buy online. Numbers are limited, so don’t wait!
